Introduction to the Turkish lira and Turkey

What currency is used in Turkey?

The currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY). 1₺ (lira)

 

There are 6 different coins with the following values: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200. To avoid unforeseen risks of receiving fake money, we recommend that you check the coin when trading. Be careful especially with those banknotes: 200, 100. The current exchange rate for the Turkish Lira (TRY) is:

  1. (USD) The exchange rate of the United States dollar $ 1 is 7.86 TRY Turkish Lira (TRY).
  2. For 1 Euro (EUR) you can get: 9.52 TRY Turkish Lira (TRY).
  3. (GBP) You can get 1 British Pound (British Pound): 10.40 TRY Turkish Lira (TRY).
  4. (RUB) 1 Russian rouble you can get: 0.11 TRY Turkish Lira (TRY).

Is Turkey an expensive country?

The prices of basic products in Turkey are almost 50% lower compared to an Arab country such as Saudi Arabia. The average cost of accommodation in Turkey ranges from 155 TRY in a simple hotel accommodation to 419 TRY in a 3-star hotel, while the price is per night in a luxury hotel in Turkey is about 1400 TRY.

Using public transportation in Turkey comes at a cost of 3.50 TRY for a one-way ticket. The price for renting a car in Turkey (such as Volkswagen Golf or Toyota Corolla) is 250 TRY. If you prefer to use a taxi, the taxi price starting from 5.00 TRY. For a 1 km ride in Turkey, it costs approximately 3.30 TRY, and the lowest cost for short distances is 13 TL.

 

Is food expensive in Turkey?
